My First Mountaineering Experience - Mt Philistine

27 November 2018

Recently I got the chance to tick another item off my bucket list : I went mountaineering.
I climbed up the snowy Mt Philistine in Arthurs Pass in New Zealand. And it was one of the best experience I have ever had.

A few months ago I joined a Meetup group called Christchurch Climbing, Mountaineering & Adventure but I had never been able to join any of the meetup organized because I was either busy or it was suitable for beginners. But a month so they organized a beginner friendly event, boy was I excited!

Before I could go on this little adventure I needed some pieces of equipment : an ice axe and some crampons. I easily rented them from Bivouac for NZD20 for the day.
On the day, I met with 3 other guys; Dave and Vince, who had a lot of experience, and Matt, who like me was a beginner. I was happy to see that someone else had no experience as well. We headed out from Christchurch at 5:30am, and by 7:30am we were ready to start the hike.
